Coming off the release of last fall’s hotly-touted A Bud That Never Blooms EP, Texas metalcore-makers Gore. have returned with their first new song of 2025. And, boy, does it get filthy. Their latest track – themed around bipolar disorder and fit with a muck-covered music video – is called “Sepsis.”
The new tune is the first from the band since last year’s A Bud That Never Blooms, and likewise the debut of now full-time drummer Wills Weller (Toothgrinder), who’d started touring with Gore. last fall.
Vocalist Haley Roughton explained in a statement that the tune – which mixes virulent djent mania and balladic melodies with the singer’s screamed-to-sung dexterity — was written for a friend who had been in a relationship with someone that had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder.
“I attempted to write it from his perspective, after seeing him try to salvage a relationship where he was constantly challenged and abused,” Gore.’s vocalist commented. “I could only imagine how difficult it is knowing that the person you love is ill and staying by their side, even when the relationship feels like torment.”
As for the music video, it had been teased earlier in the week through a quick clip of a gold-dipped Roughton facing off against a mud-covered doppelganger. Directed by Ned Ingalls, the video is an allegory for folks living with BPD, according to Roughton.
“The music video reflects that isolation and what it’s like to be trapped inside your own head and thoughts,” she explained. “Hence why it’s just me and a double the whole time.”
Beyond the new music video, which you’ll find up above, Gore. also have a pair of UK concert dates this week, including an appearance at London’s Blackheart venue tomorrow (June 11th).
