Frozen Soul have hit the battlefield again, and they’ve brought Machine Head’s Robb Flynn with them.
Coming off Frozen Soul’s recent team-up with My Chemical Romance’s Gerard Way, the Texas death-metal squad have now shot out the latest single behind their forthcoming No Place of Warmth, and it’s a heater featuring Flynn called “Invoke War.”
The song is described in a press release as being about “the internal battle we all have to fight when navigating loss, grief, guilt, and depression.” It’s a sequel of sorts to “Arsenal of War” off Frozen Soul’s Glacial Domination LP from 2023, with vocalist Chad Green dedicating the song to his late brother. He added that “Invoke War” is about “remembering and carrying the light and memories of your lost loved one with you.”
A video for the tune, which you can see up above, finds Frozen Soul and Flynn prowling around some arcane dungeon, jailed up but ready for the attack. The tune batters through a low-chunked mosh, but whips itself into a double-time around the time Green finds a sacred dagger in the blood-soaked soil of his jail cell, which is a pretty handy find.
“It’s about getting back up,” Green further explains of the lyrics. “It’s meant to be the anthem to your day, the background music to your story, the extra weapon you might need to help conquer whatever you’re struggling with. Robb’s lyrics add a whole new layer of power and emotion to the song.”
As previously reported, No Place of Warmth is out May 8th via Century Media. Beyond the guest spots form Flynn and Way, Frozen Soul also have Sanguisugabogg frontman Devin Swank dropping into gutturals for the record’s “Dreadnought.”
