It’s been a long time coming, but Loathe have finally returned with new music. And damn is the UK alt-metal experimentalists’ latest standalone single, “Gifted Every Strength,” a crusher.
After unveiling some new tunes in their live set earlier this spring, Loathe officially unloaded “Gifted Every Strength” onto streamers today (May 2nd). The band’s first studio release in three years begins with some otherworldly and sorta symphonic dissonance, but quickly ramps up towards a disgustingly groovy roadhouse djenting.
Frontman Kadeem France rolls out a series of heart-heavy howls about someone’s soul tearing apart, but then the song pivots towards R&B maximalist vocal harmonies and plenty of sweetness in the chorus. All told, “Gifted Every Strength” balances bruising modern metal havoc with elements of slick jazz fusion and rainbow-road shoegazing, and it all caps with an ultra-extended, vibe-heavy guitar solo.

Though France had told Revolver a couple of years ago that the group’s full-length follow-up to 2020’s Let It In and It Took Everything would “absolutely” be arriving in 2024, it’s as-yet unclear when the next album will actually hit fans.
Regardless, you can catch Loathe out on the road right now on their North American tour with Spiritbox, which runs until mid-May, and again in the fall during their Canadian tour alongside Korn and Gojira.
