Last week, upcoming wrestling biopic Queen of the Ring was being promoted by a tender Kansas cover from Corey Taylor and Bad Omens. Now, another cover from the soundtrack has stepped into the ring: an unplugged take on Metallica’s “The Unforgiven,” as performed by members of Kittie, Diamante and rising nu-core sister duo the Pretty Wild.
The latest Queen of the Ring contender plays the ‘Tallica tune traditional in some ways, starting off with some familiarly moody acoustic guitar work. Members from all three acts — notably all signed to Sumerian Records, the label QOTR writer-director Ash Avildsen has been running for years – take passes at Papa Het’s lyrics about what one feels and what one knows.
While the airy vibe of the redux skips on the Lars Ulrich-style drum-crushin’, it does feature a weeping fiddle solo. You can hear how the tag-team tribute plays out up above.
As previously reported, Queen of the Ring is a film about women’s wrestling trailblazer Mildred Burke, who began grappling at carnivals in the Thirties before hitting the pro circuit and becoming a three time world-champion.
It stars Emily Bett Rickards (Arrow) as Burke, but also features Josh Lucas, Walton Goggins, Gavin Casalegno and real-life wrestling figures Kamille, Toni Storm, Trinity Fatu, and Jim Cornette.
The film received its world premiere last night in New York City, but it officially hits wider release this Friday (March 7th).
While Kittie, Diamante and the Pretty Wild’s version of “The Unforgiven” is streaming now, a soundtrack via Sumerian Records likewise releases in full by Friday.
