Korn may be out celebrating the 30th anniversary of their debut album on their current tour with Gojira and Spiritbox, but today (October 18th) is likewise a special day for frontman Jonathan Davis’ family. It is in fact the birthday of his son, Nathan, who also makes electronic music under the name Hi I’m Ghost. To mark the occasion, the two have collaborated on a new single called “Dark Fantasy.”
The track begins with some ambient squeals and a heavy e-bass groove, with the elder Davis then hitting the mic to roll out a familiarly dramatic set of brood-quivered lines (“I’ve suffered all this time to make amends with something that is dead”). The song goes on to deliver industrial-damaged guitar brutalism, electronic white noise and a distortion-riddled sample of a baby’s cries.
Despite the dark tone, it sounds like the new Davis fam jam was a blast to put together, with Jonathan posting in an Instagram story earlier today that he “had so much fun making this song with my son.” As for Nathan, he added in an Instagram post: “Hi it’s my birthday 🙂 and for my birthday I want you to stream dad & son dubstep 100 times.”
