Ukrainian metal group Jinjer have slid another single our way ahead of the official release of their fifth album, Duél. This time around, it’s a sleek and menacing piece called “Green Serpent.”
The track plays to both Jinjer’s melodic and mega-heavy tendencies, beginning with a spacious, but sinisterly chorded-out intro where vocalist Tatiana Shmayluk croons that the “grapes are falling down.”
The song ramps up in intensity through harder-edged riffs and allusions to wine-soaked bloodstreams, inescapably muddy vineyards and drunken moments where “shame hurts more than headache.” Guiding you through all this is the titular, allegorically-loaded green serpent, which Shymayluk notes “holds so much annihilating power.”
“This track has quickly become one of our favorites from the upcoming album,” the group wrote in an Instagram post. “It sonically captures everything we’ve been, where we are now, and where we’re headed. It‘s the quintessence of all our musical endeavors!”

As previously reported, Jinjer’s Duél is out February 7th via Napalm Records. Prior to “Green Serpent,” the band issued pre-release singles “Rogue,” “Someone’s Daughter” and “Kafka.”
