GOJIRA’s JOE DUPLANTIER leads the “vegan revolution” in new PETA campaign

A few months on from Gojira’s fiery, French Revolution-referencing performance during the Olympic Opening Ceremonies, frontman-guitarist Joe Duplantier is now leading the vegan revolution as an official spokesperson for PETA.

A new team-up between the metal musician and the animal rights organization was revealed today (November 26th), though Duplantier noted through the campaign that he, himself, has been vegan for more than a decade. He’s joined up with PETA to protest animal cruelty and slaughterhouse practices, while also promoting a vegan lifestyle for its health benefits — including, he says, how it’s impacted Gojira performances.

“There is a true vegan revolution happening. It’s not a trend, it’s an awakening,” Duplantier said, adding, “I became vegan for the animals. It’s about the life of the animals and what they go through. But another benefit of being vegan is for your own health….I have more energy now when I perform since I became vegan.”

Despite the new campaign, Duplantier also pointed out that Gojira have been singing about animal rights for years.

You can find out more about the campaign through the promo video up above, while a new PETA poster that finds Duplantier taking over the streets with his animal friends can bee seen  below.

As previously reported, Gojira’s viral “Mea Culpa (Ah! Ça ira!)” performance during the Olympics made for one of metal and pop-culture’s most unique moments this year. The studio version of the single is now up for a Grammy, for Best Metal Performance of the Year.
