Jane’s Addiction cancelled the remainder of their fall tour this week after vocalist Perry Farrell threw a punch at guitarist Dave Navarro on stage in Boston, and then they all decided to “take some time away as a group.” Despite the dramatic hiatus, the classic lineup delivered a woozy ballad to streaming services today (September 18th) titled “True Love,” which you can hear up above.
“True Love” is the second single in 2024 from the lineup of Farrell, Navarro, drummer Stephen Perkins, and bassist Eric Avery, following “Imminent Redemption,” which they released this past July. The band had debuted “True Love” live last year, and have played it at a few other shows since. Navarro had told Rolling Stone back in August that there is more Jane’s material to come, and that a new album is “more than likely going to happen.”
“I mean, we have recorded material,” he said. “I don’t know specifically the model, if it’s going to be a song at a time, or if we’re going to drop a song and then a record, or I don’t really know. I kind of stay out of that stuff. What matters to me most is that this stuff is on vinyl.”
In the wake of last week’s live debacle, however, Farrell issued a statement, saying, “This weekend has been incredibly difficult and after having the time and space to reflect, it is only right that I apologize to my bandmates, especially Dave Navarro, fans, family and friends for my actions during Friday’s show. Unfortunately, my breaking point resulted in inexcusable behavior, and I take full accountability for how I chose to handle the situation.”
The rest of the band expressed concerned for their bandmate’s wellbeing, adding in a joint statement of Farrell, “Our concern for his personal health and safety as well as our own has left us no alternative. We hope that he will find the help he needs.”
