Following Frozen Soul’s recent team-ups with My Chemical Romance’s Gerard Way and Machine Head’s Robb Flynn, the Texas death-metal maniacs have become unwitting instruments of metal destruction in the new video for their latest No Place of Warmth single, “DEATHWEAVER.”
Sonically, “DEATHWEAVER” is a more slow-trudging piece from Frozen Soul, the Texans reveling in grotesquely hypnotic pinch squeals and an avalanche of heavy drum hits. Vocalist Chad Green weighs in with a series of bestial bellows about the titular “tailor of the dead” and a looming, epochal dread.
“‘DEATHWEAVER’ is about how slowly, in time, you lose pieces of yourself and gain new perspectives,” Green says in a statement, adding that it touches upon the “cruel nature of life” and how “your memories of life’s experiences…form who you are inside.”
It’s explained in a press release that the video was inspired by anime and Warhammer, and it finds a musically inclined ghoul of some kind stripping “veins, nerves and bones” off of Frozen Soul to to string up her harp. The band worked behind the scenes with Eric from Mile High Animation on the design of the harp, having 3D printed it piece by piece before Green and bassist Sam Mobley “painted and gored it up.”
As previously reported, No Place of Warmth sees release May 8th through Century Media. The album also features Sanguisugabogg frontman Devin Swank on “Dreadnought.”
