Coming off the recent announcement that Fit For an Autopsy are about to drop a new full-length called The Nothing That Is, the metal demolition crew have now delivered the record’s heavy-edged first single: the take-no-prisoners crusher “Hostage.”
The new track is a metalcore tilt-a-whirl of harmonic-scraping grooves, dizzying shred, micro-thrash sections and darkly anthemic harmonies. Through all that, vocalist Joe “Bad” Badolato weighs in on feelings of helplessness through interpersonally trying times.
“‘Hostage’ is an examination of the human trauma and grief one carries through life,” the band shared in a joint statement.
They continued: “The inability to escape events of the past combined with the feeling of an increasingly dark future can weigh on a person like nothing else. This song is intended to capture that complex and overwhelming emotion and conveys the negative side of a sorrowed existence.”
The music video for “Hostage,” made by prolific director Eric Richter (Code Orange, Knocked Loose, Evanescence), is a black-and-white vid that hints at the heavy sorrow of the lyrics through its earth-sodden outdoor setting, among other unsavory tangents. You can check it out up above.
As previously reported, Fit For an Autopsy’s The Nothing That Is sees release October 25th via Nuclear Blast, and will be supported with a North American tour alongside Bodysnatcher, Distant, Sylosis and Judiciary.
