Hot off heels of Jerry Cantrell’s grunge-ground new “Vilified” single with Robert Trujillo, the revered Alice in Chains guitarist-vocalist has revealed more details behind his next solo album. Titled I Want Blood, Cantrell’s guests-packed fourth solo LP arrives October 18th through Double J Music, and features additional contributions from Better Lovers’ Greg Puciato, Guns N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan and more.
A press release confirms that “Vilified” is the first track on the upcoming, 45-minute effort, which was co-produced between Cantrell and Joe Barresi (TOOL, Queens of the Stone Age, Melvins), with studio sessions having taken place at Barresi’s JHOC Studio in Pasadena, California. Along with low-end supplied by Trujillo and McKagan, the album also features drumming from both Faith No More’s Mike Bordin and Team Sleep’s Gil Sharone, and backing vocals from Puciato and Lola Collette.
I Want Blood follows 2021’s Brighten, and if the gloom-pounded first single or the album’s gore-hungry title hadn’t already made it clear, Cantrell’s suggesting that it’s going to be a nastier affair than his previous solo effort.
“This record is a serious piece of work. It’s a motherfucker,” he said in a statement. “It’s hard, no doubt, and completely unlike Brighten. And that’s what you want, to end up in a different place. There’s a confidence to this album. I think it’s some of my best songwriting and playing, and certainly some of my best singing.”

Cantrell likewise kicks off his North American tour alongside Bush and Candlebox today (July 26th) at Bend, Oregon’s Hayden Homes Amphitheater. The tour runs until the middle of September, and you can find the rest of the route over here.
