Serj Tankian continues to lay the foundation for his forthcoming solo EP, having just delivered his latest single: the politically and personally charged “Justice Will Shine On.”
A press release explains that like earlier FOUNDATIONS preview “A.F. Day,” Tankian had initially written “Justice Will Shine On” during the early days of System of a Down.
Decades later, the song formally arrives through thunderous rhythms, dramatic chord swings and an impassioned, multi-layered vocal performance where Tankian considers the Armenian genocide that took place during WWI, and how the horrors of that period of history unquestionably still impact his family and the broader Armenian community to this day.
“Can you tell me dear grandmother of your childhood from hunger and pain/Of the orphans you called brothers in her teared eyes disarray,” he sings on the piece, adding in the chorus, “We are the children of all the survivors/Justice will shine on!”
