Evanescence are back to save us from the pain and fill up the hole inside. Or, at least, that’s part of the lyrical conceit Amy Lee is singing through on the band’s new “Afterlife” single, a brooding nu-rocker they crafted for the upcoming Netflix adaptation of anime Devil May Cry.
As previously reported, Evanescence started teasing the track late last week via a cryptic socials post before officially announcing the arrival of “Afterlife” earlier this week. Now, showrunners and the band have teamed up to present a lyric video featuring footage from the demon hunting anime.
Evanescence’s first song in four years finds the band hitting what they hit best: think dramatic quiet/loud dynamics, neon violet guitar melodies, Lee’s powerful vibrato and more. The song was co-written by Lee and producer/musician Alex Seaver (a.k.a. Mako), and was likewise co-produced between Seaver and Nick Raskulinecz.
As Lee weighs in on broken souls, communal panic, sins and revenge, we’re treated to visuals of lead Devil May Cry character Dante getting into a gun battle with a rather villainous-looking White Rabbit. We also see a plane explode, and a fantastical lair is revealed.

“Afterlife” is Evanescence’s first release since the band’s The Bitter Truth album back in 2021. Lee recently told Loudwire Nights that the group “are happily, deeply in the creative process on the new album and a couple of other side things.”
Devil May Cry, meanwhile, is set to premiere through Netflix on April 3rd
