We live in an age of modern wonders.
We’ve got smartphones in our pockets. AI engines are smashing every bit of human accomplishment into a series of surrealist 1’s and 0’s. And yet, have you ever considered how mind-blowing it is that we can be transported upon a vertical axis by the trusty old elevator? German electronicore oddballs Electric Callboy sure have, for that’s the central premise of their latest transportive single, “Elevator Operator.”
The group’s new tune continues to cross-reference the two sides of Electric Callboy’s sound – at points Powerman-ing its way through industrialized nu-riffs and thick-necked growls, but ready to flip into four-on-the-floor driven Nineties dance-pop at the drop of a hat.
The lift controllers fill the song with a lot of elevator-adjacent imagery (“I wanna show you my world/ Where the beat goes up and down”), while a music video finds a trio of mulleted electro-metal fans taking a mechanical trip from the ground floor of a building up towards a packed dance club.
So long as you’re not prone to motion sickness, you can give Electric Callboy’s goofy but good-natured “Elevator Operator” a spin via the player up above.
“Elevator Operator” follows Electric Callboy’s collaborative “RATATATA” single with BABYMETAL. Oddly, the new song features a line about how Electric Callboy want us to shout a phonetically-familiar cry of “Ta-Ta-Tatata-Tatatata” at them.
