Texas metalcore-expanders Daedric have spent the summer building the hype for their next album, As the Light Left. Following the release of their deep and emotive “Undone,” the group have now roared into a round of classic nu dynamics for their next single: “Sand Tiger.”
While founder Kristyn Hope christened her project Daedric a few years back to reflect a love for the godly figures within Elder Scrolls lore, “Sand Tiger” was inspired by a few very different deities. Its title alludes to the fanged and mystically bestial Cave of Wonders seen in Disney’s Aladdin, while the propulsive groove and raspy melodic performances were inspired by Limp Bizkit’s Three Dollar Bill, Y’all and Linkin Park’s Meteora.
Accordingly, Hope brings a scratchily anthemic, Chester Bennington-styled approach to the choruses, but also delivers big feral growls through the rest of “Sand Tiger.” The tune was built around a bass groove and drum loop prepared by producer Geoff Rockwell, but eventually evolved to include a mix of beats and live drums. The track also warps elements of Hope’s vocal performance with Nineties rap-rock turntablism.
The lyrics, meanwhile, are said to revolve around “exhaustion and emotional numbness,” the feeling of “pushing forward even when it feels pointless,” and fleeting, ephemeral experiences (“I guess I’m just a ghost now/So I’ll dissipate in oblivion”).
“You know that feeling when you’re beyond anger, like you’re just done,” the band pose rhetorically in a joint statement, “That’s more what it was.”

As previously reported, As the Light Left is due out October 17th via FiXT, and it includes the aforementioned singles as well as “Callous” and “Alien Skin.”
