Following a quasi-cryptic Instagram post last week, anthemic nu-metal faves Evanescence have formally revealed that they’re about to drop their first piece of new music in four years, as part of the soundtrack for upcoming Netflix anime series Devil May Cry.
News of the single, titled “Afterlife,” arrived through a teaser post on the band’s socials today (March 24th), with it being explained that the song will be unveiled in full this Thursday (March 27th) through a lyric video featuring exclusive clips from the new series.
Last week, Evanescence vocalist Amy Lee had teased “Afterlife” in a socials post where she threw up a few hand signs that suggested the announcement would be made on “three-two-four,” with that IG clip having been scored by a bit of moody guitar playing.
Now, as you can hear below, the song is being further teased with a snippet of brooding, distorted music where Lee sings of being out of tears to cry, and likewise that she is “not afraid to die”
“Afterlife” will be Evanescence’s first release since they’d delivered their The Bitter Truth album back in 2021.
As for Devil May Cry, Netflix’s adaptation of the anime is set to premiere through the streaming service on April 3rd. Showrunners had already demonstrated a love for nu-metal, considering the theme song will be Limp Bizkit’s “Rollin’ (Air Raid Vehicle)” and a recent trailer was scored by Papa Roach’s “Last Resort.”
