Veteran New York post-hardcore crew Orange 9mm opened up for Refused and Quicksand in Brooklyn, New York last Friday (March 21st), and proceeded to treat the crowd to the debut their first new song since the Nineties: “Turn It Up.”
“Turn It Up” was the third song of O9mm’s set at the Paramount, which was likewise just the group’s second performance since reforming last year. The track was full of groove and rap-and-hollered vocals from frontman Chaka Malik, and seemed to tap into the full-throttle spirit of their Driver Not Included era.
While details are slim, Orange 9mm revealed late last year that they were “recording new shit” with the current line-up of Malik, guitarist Taylor McLam, bassist Cory Bonfiglio and drummer Chris Enríquez (who is Revolver‘s Brand Partnership Director). It’s as-yet unclear if “Turn It Up” has been a part of those recording sessions, or whether it might be released as a single or on an upcoming album.
O9mm’s last LP release was 1999’s Pretend I’m Human.
