Coming off the heels of the Cure’s stunning late 2024 comeback LP, Songs Of a Lost World, the gothic veterans have now tapped a handful of friends to re-envision their moodiest, most modern classics for a companion collection called Mixes Of A Lost World. This includes Deftones vocalist Chino Moreno, who is previewing the set early via a chilling and effects-warped redux of “Warsong.”
While the original was a shadowy and spacious heart-wrecker, Moreno ramps up the intensity from the jump with a stronger and more mechanically-clanking drum machine beat, arguably thrusting the tune closer to the Cure’s heavy-brooding, early Eighties Pornography period.
The vocals, meanwhile, now come soaked in additional layers of pitch-modded harmonizing, giving Robert Smith an uncanny presence on the track.

The remix continues a re-interpretive back and forth between the Cure and Deftones. Back in 2020, Smith had revamped Deftones’ “Teenager” for a deluxe anniversary edition of White Pony. In 2018, Deftones covered the Cure’s classic “A Forest” at the U.K.’s Meltdown festival, which had been curated that year by Smith.
As for the rest of Mixes Of a Lost World, the extensive double-album remix project will also include newly imagined takes from Mogawai, Paul Oakenfold, Four Tet, Orbital and many more. The project is out June 13th via Polydor/Fiction/Capitol, and can be pre-ordered here.
