Better Lovers are showing us their sensitive side — sort of. Following a series of fully raging, and Highly Irresponsible singles, the heavy-music supergroup have now unveiled a comparatively softer, but still-distorted, post-hardcore power ballad called “At All Times.”
While the latest album preview isn’t as identifiably panicked and punchy as other pre-release cuts like “A White Horse Covered in Blood,” there’s still plenty of dynamics to behold. The song starts with gentle, delay-coursing guitar effects and some light crooning from vocalist Greg Puciato, but also bustles into a bit of twitchy six-stringin’, a post-chorus bit of meter-judding math-rock, and a guitar solo that sounds like a GMC Vandura blasting off into the cosmos.
“When the guys sent me the instrumental of ‘At All Times’ I was really blown away,” Puciato commented. “I’ve been looking forward to the ‘writes power ballads’ stage of my existence for a while now. I knew it was coming. I had no idea it would be with this band. As a vocalist, it’s really exciting to be with guys that can write songs like this AND ’30 Under 13.’ This one’s for the lovers.”
As previously reported, Better Lovers’ debut album, Highly Irresponsible, is out October 25th via SharpTone Records, and the band are set to promote the full-length with a fall North American tour alongside Gouge Away, Full of Hell, Cloakroom and more. You’ll find the date details here.
