Hear AT THE GATES’ furious new song “The Dissonant Void”

Prepare to enter the void.

At the Gates have delivered “The Dissonant Void,” the second crushing single behind their forthcoming The Ghost of a Future Dead album, the Swedish metal icons’ last to be recorded with late vocalist Tomas Lindberg.

The track, which follows first single “The Fever Mask,” is an exceptionally ripping, melodeath-speedy outing from At the Gates. Steered by melancholically trilled-out tones and a mournful guitar solo, it finds Lindberg fiercely screaming of a “furious madness” within the void, and the “reverberating pulse of doom” guiding folks through the darkness.

“We are proud to unveil the second track from The Ghost of a Future Dead,” the surviving members wrote in a joint statement. “Originally considered to be the title track – it’s a powerful, melodic and to the point track with the classic At the Gates-style sound.”

The song arrives in a music video featuring painting, filming, editing and production work from Costin Chioreanu, which alludes to a greater visual project behind the LP. Chioreanu furthered that the video is but “the peak of the iceberg, as a whole visual universe got born out of the void written so masterfully in lyrics by Tomas and expressed magically by the band through their unique heavy metal approach.

“This video, together with the whole The Ghost of a Future Dead movie, represent my ultimate homage to the genius which will forever remain as Tomas Lindberg. It was a colossal task to express visually the depth and the darkness of these lyrics and music for an entire album, which also is most probably the darkest record I ever worked for.”

As previously reported, The Ghost of a Future Dead was recorded and mixed by Jens Bogren at Örebro, Sweden’s Fascination Street Studios. Lindberg recorded his vocals ahead of a major mouth surgery connected to his battle with Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma, a rare form of oral cancer. He passed away last fall.

The Ghost of a Future Dead is out April 24th via Century Media. A pre-order on “Translucent Black Ice”-tinted wax (limited to 500 copies) is up in Revolver‘s shop, where you can likewise pick up alternate vinyl colorways and CD copies of The Ghost of a Future Dead .
