From Ashes to New want to be your villain this year.
Coming off the recent reveal that the Lancaster, Pennsylvania nu-rock dominators are going to be touring North America with Black Veil Brides in the spring, they’ve now outlined plans to issue a new album called REFLECTIONS, which is being teased with a new boom tune dubbed “Villain.”
The track is technically the third taste of the album, as REFLECTIONS will also include recent singles “New Disease” and “Drag Me”. With “Villain,” the band explore detuned, chest-compressing melancholy throughout, while vocalist Matt Brandyberry croons of the devil on your shoulder constantly beckoning you towards the dark side. It’s seemingly about making exciting, but “awful choices”.
“‘Villain’ is a story about the magnetic pull between two people who know better, but dive in anyway,” Brandyberry explains further in a statement. “It’s the moment when desire outweighs consequences, when you choose the chaos you swear you shouldn’t want, and the ‘bad guy’ becomes the one voice you can’t quiet.
He adds: “The song leans into that dark, intoxicating tension where temptation feels like truth, danger feels like comfort, and the line between thrill and destruction disappears. It’s not about saving each other…it’s about surrendering to the part of yourself you pretend doesn’t exist.”

REFLECTIONS follows 2023 breakthrough release Blackout album. As previously reported, From Ashes to New had initially demoed out a full album’s worth of tunes, but scrapped most of those ideas, starting anew and refining “the evolution of their sound.” “I wanted to take what we are good at and push it even further,” Brandyberry now says.
