Foo Fighters have unveiled their second original single of 2025, and first since drummer Ilan Rubin joined the alt-rockers’ ranks. Dave Grohl and Co.’s latest anthem comes under the title “Asking for a Friend,” and the song arrives alongside the announcement of a 2026 North American tour with Queens of the Stone Age.
The Foos announced the arrival of the track across their socials yesterday (October 22nd), which presented single artwork featuring a sepia-toned set of live pics of the band’s current lineup — including Rubin, who joined the band this past summer, after exiting Nine Inch Nails.
An Instagram story further teased the tune with a heavy-swung snippet of its chorus, full of huge power chords, Grohl’s famously raspy vocal and a brief, snare-galloping fill. Now, the song is on streamers in full, and you can also check out the uplifting anthem in the player up above.
“Since our return to the stage in San Luis Obispo five weeks ago, we have been reminded of why we love and are forever devoted to doing this Foo Fighters thing,” Grohl said in a statement.
“From reuniting as a band and staring at a list of 30 years worth of songs to brush off, to reimagining versions with the incredible blessing of the one and only Ilan Rubin behind the drums, to reconnecting with our amazing fans and blasting them with everything we’ve got (no matter the size of the venue) because we would not be here without them, we have the most solid core. And the sun is finally rising over the horizon.”
Grohl also confirmed a batch of 2026 North American tour dates with Queens of the Stone Age, the tour package pairing reflecting the long friendship between the Foos leader and Queens’ Josh Homme. Grohl reflected on seeing Homme play a Kyuss show in Seattle in 1992, and hinted at their various collaborative efforts, including, among other things, his drumming on Queens albums and their Them Crooked Vultures project
“I have shared some of my life’s most rewarding musical moments with my dear friend, Josh. A lifelong bond that goes far beyond the sound we’ve made together. So it is with great happiness that we can share this next chapter together with his almighty Queens of the Stone Age.”
The 12-show 2026 North American tour begins August 4th at Toronto, Ontario’s Rogers Stadium and concludes September 26th at Las Vegas, Nevada’s Allegiant Stadium. General ticket sales begin October 31st.
As previously reported, Foo Fighters issued their pensive, life-affirming ballad “Today’s Song” back in July, just a few days after uploading a rip-roaring, decades-in-the-making Minor Threat cover.
Foo Fighters had also released the surprise live LP Are Playing Where?? Vol. 1 at the beginning of October, which featured recordings of recent Rubin-backed performances at the Fremont Theater in San Luis Obispo, California, The Observatory in Santa Ana, California, the famed Black Cat in Washington, D.C., and at Toad’s Place in New Haven, Connecticut.
