Dream Theater are looking to keep you awake at night with a chilling new visual interpretation of their recent Parasomnia album. Before the official arrival of their upcoming Dream Theater: Parasomnia – The Graphic Album, the band and Z2 Comics have partnered with Revolver to deliver a haunting first look at the pages for the song “Night Terror.”
The prog veterans’ forthcoming graphic novel features eight tales based around the songs of this year’s Parasomnia. The project is described as an “exploration of just how thin the line is between the waking world and the world of dreams,” and was put together by a group of Nebula, Locus, Inkpot and Eisner award-winning writers and artists.
This includes visual artist Christian Rosado, who was tasked with interpreting “Night Terror” for the page. As you can see through the nightmare-fueled panels below, it indeed reflects the song’s “victim dressed in white” as she contends with religious extremists, blood-thirsty lions and a trip to the rack.
“It’s been so awesome getting to work with the Z2 team on this epic collaboration,” Dream Theater guitarist John Petrucci commented. “Having the opportunity to explore alternative interpretations of the songs on Parasomnia through the eyes of so many talented artists has been truly inspirational.
“The unique storytelling talents of all the writers as well as the incredible artwork that reflects so many different styles of graphic artistry was just amazing to witness. I think fans of this media, our DT community and just anyone who appreciates stunning displays of human creativity will really enjoy this dark and sometimes twisted journey through the realm of Parasomnia!”
Parasomnia – The Graphic Album also features prose and art from Cat Rambo, Lydia Rasero, Kevin J. Anderson, Benjamin Raab, Tony Harris, Deric Hughes, Gianenrico Bonacorsi, Dan Hernandez, Damien Worm, Gavin Hignight, Sofia Girol, Vajra Chandrasekera, Rocky Obk, Steve Niles, Stan Yak, John Reppion, Ryan Kelly, Simone D’Angelo and Lucas Carvalho.
A deluxe oversized hardcover edition of ‘Dream Theater: Parasomnia – The Graphic Album’ encased in a protective slipcase and packaged with an art print is available for pre-order now in Revolver’s shop.
