Deftones played their first show of 2025 last night (February 25th), with the alt-metal greats’ concert at Portland, Oregon’s Moda Center likewise marking the start of their first headline tour since 2022.
Before Deftones made it to the stage, fans were treated to opening sets from rising nu-gaze unit Fleshwater and psychedelic prog adventurists the Mars Volta.
When Chino Moreno and the rest of the Deftones crew hit the stage, the beloved act unfurled a hypnotic, 19-song set that sported all-time classics pulled from throughout their heady catalogue, and likewise unearthed a few cuts for the first time in ages.
Deftones kicked things off with a couple of A-grade Around the Fur favorites (“Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away)”, “My Own Summer (Shove It)”), but likewise vaulted through heavy-beated, dreamily-distorted and breathily-sung songs from the White Pony era (“Change (In the House of Flies”), hammered into Diamond Eyes heavy-hitters “Sextape” and “You’ve Seen the Butcher”), and worked up towards 2020’s Ohms with a performance of “Genesis.”
The night also reintroduced crowds to Saturday Night Wrist’s “Hole in the Earth,” which Deftones hadn’t hit live since 2019, and the encore included an adrenalized version of early single “Bored,” which they hadn’t played since 2018.
