It’s been close to nine years since Savannah, Georgia-formed psych-sludge unit Kylesa have played a show, but that all changes next year when the band kick off a run of 25th anniversary shows at the Netherlands’ famed Roadburn Festival.
Kylesa’s founding guitarists-vocalists Philip Cope and Laura Pleasants teased a reunion over Instagram earlier this week, posting a concert clip montage scored by “Don’t Look Back” off the band’s 2010 full-length, Spiral Shadow. The post was captioned “keep moving, don’t look back 2025.”
Today (August 20th), they formally revealed their forthcoming reunion plans, explaining that Kylesa will be hitting stages next year, for the first time since 2015. While the details are still shaping up, the first show takes place at Roadburn, which runs April 17-20.
“After ten years away we are excited to announce our return to performing live, starting at the 2025 edition of Roadburn,” they wrote. “We will be playing a limited number of special shows next year celebrating 25 years as a band and it all starts in Tilburg, Netherlands. We have so much more to tell you about over the coming months & we can’t wait to see you out there.”
Kylesa was founded in Savannah in the early ‘00s, with the group an active part of the Georgia State metal boom that likewise included Baroness and Mastodon. Kylesa issued a number of singles and seven full-length albums between 2001 and 2015, last leaving listeners with that year’s Exhausting Fire.
While the band haven’t performed a show since December of 2015, officially entering their hiatus the following year, Kylesa began reissuing their back catalogue on vinyl in 2021. You can pick up a limited edition copy of the band’s 2001 self-titled debut album on “black smoke” vinyl in the Revolver shop.
More recently, Pleasants has been channeling goth and darkwave vibes in her current project The Discussion, which released the “Fade Away” single last week in the lead-up to a forthcoming full-length.
