Corrosion of Conformity are doubling down on their unique brand of heaviness this year, as they’ve just announced a new double-LP dubbed Good God / Baad Man touches down this spring. The North Carolina metal vets are teasing the collection with the release of a Southern-sludgy barnburner called “Gimme Some Moore.”
Technically, the song dropped earlier in the year as a 7-inch vinyl exclusive that COC were selling on a series of Latin American dates. But today (February 10th), it was formally confirmed that the song will also be a part of the forthcoming Good God / Baad Man, which will be the outfit’s first album of original material since 2018’s No Cross No Crown.
The album likewise marks the first major COC release since the 2020 death of co-founding drummer Reed Mullin, and the 2022 departure of founding bassist Mike Dean in 2024.
In their absence, longtime guitarists Pepper Keenan and Woody Weatherman reportedly “hunkered down” at Keenan’s home in Mississippi to listen to a diverse run of faves like Discharge, ZZ Top, Motörhead, Neil Young and Black Sabbath. That stew of influences apparently inspired a bunch of COC originals, with different feels reportedly found across the album’s diptych presentation.
“As we went on, we had such a crazy plethora of songs, it was almost like two different directions,” Pepper explained in a statement. “We knew we had to split it into two different albums. Then we came up with this concept.”
“In my head, it’s a weird love letter to all things rock ‘n’ roll,” Keenan continues. “We used that for the freedom to go in different directions. Each album is its own tiny universe and has its own identity. Good God leans toward the heavier/pissed end of the spectrum. Baad Man is more on the throwdown rock scope. As we went along, it became clear which songs went on which album.”
“Gimme Some Moore” is apparently on the pissed-off first LP. The heater arrives for mass consumption through a new performance-style music video filmed by Mike Holderbeast and directed by Keenan, which you can see up above.
The album teams Keenan and Weatherman with drummer Stanton Moore — who’d previously performed on COC’s In The Arms Of God album in 2005 — and bassist Bobby “Rock” Landgraf. It was produced by Grammy-winner Warren Riker (Fugees, Down, Cathedral) and was recorded at Blak Shak Studios in “Riffissippi, USA,” Dockside Studios in Maurice, Louisiana, and Bee Gees leader Barry Gibb’s home studio in Miami, Florida.
