Bob Bryar — the drummer who played with My Chemical Romance from 2004 to 2010 — has died at 44, as confirmed by TMZ.
According to the report, Bryar was found dead in his Tennessee home on Tuesday (November 26th) after last being seen alive on November 4th.
“No foul play is suspected… because all his weapons and music equipment in the home were left untouched,” TMZ’s story reads. Additionally, “Animal Control came to the house after the body — which we’re told was badly decomposed — was discovered and took two dogs away.” The medical examiner is currently investigating the cause of death.
Bryar joined My Chemical Romance in 2004, replacing Matt Pelissier after the release of their sophomore album, Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge. He went on to tour extensively with the band before playing on their ambitious, painstakingly detailed rock opera, The Black Parade, in 2006, where his commitment to its theatrics included getting his leg severely burned during the filming of the “Famous Last Words” video.
Bryar is credited for songwriting for the band’s fourth and final studio album, Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys, and his playing can also be heard on the rarities comp Conventional Weapons. He parted ways with the band before they tracked Danger Days and was their longest-tenured drummer.
After leaving music, Bryar began working in real estate and with dog rescue charities. In 2023, he posted a lengthy note online saying that he had contemplated suicide but “at the last moment realized that wasn’t the solution.”
