Maynard James Keenan is set to flip your lid — and perhaps your body — with a new film providing an introduction to the dynamic martial art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
The TOOL, A Perfect Circle and Puscifer frontman revealed that he’s prepped a new 90-minute tutorial/documentary titled The Great In Between: An Introduction to Jiu Jitsu. The video was filmed at the Verde Valley Brazilian Jiu Jitsu academy in Cottonwood, Arizona, and finds Keenan and a group of skilled black-belts heading a hands-on seminar “tailored for beginners and the Jiu Jitsu-curious.”
As previously reported, Keenan himself earned a black belt earlier this year.
A press release notes that the film “guides viewers through the essential development of stabilizing muscles and myelin connections,” and aims to provide “a foundation for success in this confidence-building, puzzle-solving martial art.”
It’s added in a trailer for the film, which you can see up above, that Keenan’s glad to pass on the knowledge he’s gained through various Jiu Jitsu practitioners over the years. That’s not to say he’s a total master himself. “Those who can’t do teach,” he jokes humbly in the trailer, more seriously adding, “I’m not great at Jiu Jitsu, but I understand Jiu Jitsu”
“You can do this,” he added in a statement. “We’ve got your back. Not literally. But we can also teach you how to get us off your back. See what I did there?”
The Great In Between: An Introduction to Jiu Jitsu premieres through Puscifertv.com on December 13th. You can pre-order of the film, which will be available as a 72-hour rental, right now, and likewise bundle the stream with various commemorative merch items.
