Following up on August Burns Red’s recent “Behemoth” single — which they said was one of their “heaviest and most raw songs” ever — the classic metalcore quintet have revealed that things are getting even heavier this spring. That’s because ABR have just officially announced that their next album, titled SEASON OF SURRENDER, is out this June. Better yet, they’re previewing the platter with another perma-beater, which they call “The Nameless.”
A press release has vocalist Jake Luhrs explaining that the new track is about “not wasting your life away for the sake of acceptance and comfortability.” From the jump, an on-the-beat thrust and rifled-out guitars support his lines around groupthink, moral absence and the idea that “nihilism is a prison”.
“Sometimes it takes detaching from what you’ve been told, or from the beliefs you are no longer aligned with, in order to face your own weaknesses,” he continues. “In doing so you can break free to live a life you are proud of.”
“‘The Nameless’ is a hard-hitting, heavy bruiser that doesn’t let up for one moment,” added bassist Dustin Davidson. “It combines classic ABR elements with dark moody technical rhythms, and fast paced vocals to keep the intensity up for the full three minutes of the track. To me it showcases our roots of where we’ve come from, and the future path of where we’re heading.”
As previously reported, August Burns Red recently returned to their old label home Fearless Records, with whom they’d released three albums with between 2015 and 2020, the last of which being 2020’s Guardians.
The upcoming SEASON OF SURRENDER includes last month’s “Behemoth” single, and likewise finds ABR joined by The Devil Wears Prada’s Mike Hranica (“Legions”), Polaris frontman Jamie Hails (“Sonic Salvation”), and Make Them Suffer (“Cerebral Malfunction”).
The album is out June 5th through Fearless, but an exclusive vinyl pre-order on “Opaque Aqua”-colored wax (limited to 300) is available now in our shop. There, you can also find standard black vinyl and CD editions of SEASON OF SURRENDER, along with other ABR releases.
August Burns Red soon hit the road with Australian post-hardcore unit the Amity Affliction for their North American “Spring Horizons” tour. That trip launches April 10th at the Palladium in Worcester, Massachusetts, and closes at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania’s Fillmore on May 17th. The rest of the dates can be found here.
