Here’s a lil’ something to fill the void: Prolific rock riff-slinger Billy Morrison has delivered a new collaborative single with Godsmack singer Sully Erna and guitar icon Nuno Bettencourt for his next solo LP, HOLLOW.
Morrison confirmed that he started writing the new tune, dubbed “Becoming,” with Erna’s vocals in mind, and later approached the singer to contribute lyrics (Fuel’s Brett Scallions is likewise a co-writer on the song). The track is said to be about “transforming out of the darkness and negativity of certain lifestyle choices and becoming a strong, positive and powerful force.”
Speaking of Erna, Morrison enthused, “His work with Godsmack over the decades has just proven his voice to be one of the most powerful in rock music.”
“I really enjoyed working with Billy and Nuno on this track,” Erna added. “It’s always a bit challenging when you have three creative people that work at such high levels of production to get to the finish line, but in the end the product always speaks for itself. And this song is strong!”
“When you’re asked to collaborate on a song with incredible artists like Sully Erna and Billy Morrison, you’d have to say ‘yes’ before even hearing the song,” says Bettencourt, who hits the solo on the single. He added, “But man, when you DO hear the song and it’s as badass as this… you forget who’s on it and just do it for the love of it.”
Morrison also promises that a “kickass” music video for the single is on the way. It was filmed between two locations: a lights-blazing L.A. warehouse and a slick, downpour-intensive “rain room.” Stay tuned.
HOLLOW follows Morrison’s The Morrison Project record from 2024, which featured guest spots from Ozzy Osbourne and Slipknot’s Corey Taylor. While the details have yet to rain down in full, the new album will also be star-studded with Marilyn Manson, Dexter Holland, Duff McKagan and others confirmed so far. It’s expected to arrive sometime in August via TLG | ZOID/Virgin Music Group.
