Igniting speculation about a possible reunion, Arch Enemy and former vocalist Angela Gossow are teasing an upcoming, though undetailed joint project.
Earlier this week, both the melodeath band and the German extreme metal vocalist — who had sung with the band from 2000-2012 — wiped all posts off their respective Instagram accounts. Today (February 13th), they both shared a video that features someone hoisting a torch in the air. It’s captioned with a cryptic “2026.”
Arch Enemy’s Michael Amott (guitar), Joey Concepcion (guitar) and Daniel Erlandsson (drums) are all tagged in the socials post, as is Gossow — with the latter’s inclusion leading many to believe that Gossow is fully back in the band.
Furthermore, the front page of Arch Enemy’s website fills the screen with static fuzz and the message: “[Reconnecting] Please Wait”. Details are pending. Gossow’s last album with the band was 2011’s Khaos Legions.
Last fall, the long-running extreme metal announced their split with longtime vocalist Alissa White-Gluz, who’d joined the band in 2014 following Gossow’s exit. She’d recorded four albums with the band, including last year’s Blood Dynasty. White-Gluz premiered her “The Room Where She Died” solo single at the time of her departure, and more new music is expected this year.
Notably, when Gossow officially announced her departure from Arch Enemy in 2014, she’d said that she was “passing the torch to the super talented Alissa White-Gluz, whom I’ve known as a dear friend and a superb vocalist for many years.” At least symbolically, it looks like the torch could be back in Gossow’s hands.
