Tool’s third album debuted atop of the Billboard 200, and nabbed the band a Grammy for godhead prog-stomper “Schism.” It’s no wonder — the record is a toe-tappingly heavy set of gray-slate avant-metal bleakness. It’s also undeniably weird, essentially rolling out as an epic, near-80-minute suite of technical dexterity, faux Buddhist chanting, and staggeringly weighty time shifts that rabbit-holed into ancient mathematics. Somehow the pieces fit.
Double vinyl four-picture disc edition of Lateralus. Each side contains a different picture and is packaged in a plastic gatefold with a holographic foil.
