Primus’ second studio full-length was their major label debut, a mainstream plunge bassist-vocalist Les Claypool joked put them neck-and-neck with the cheesy “hairball bands” that had dominated the early Nineties. By ’93, though, Primus had established themselves as firebrand oddities in the rock scene. Their Cheese had distinct flavors of metal, funk and folktale whimsy. The characters that inhabited their bass-slappin’ anthems included freaks like Tommy the Cat and tragically pedal-pushing race car drivers. Tweek out to one of Primus’ most eccentric outings on this limited “Cheese Melt”-colored vinyl pressing.
