Released in 1997, The Brown Album marked a sticky reinvention for Primus. Most obviously, the trio had been rejigged to include drummer Brain, an elemental skinsman who brought a slithery, lean percussiveness to weird-wriggling funk-outs like “Fisticuffs.” But the band also mutated the groove to showcase Parliament-style bass slaps and circus-ready guitar noise, while “Shake Hands with Beef” brought the house down with a gutter-funk grittiness. Shake hands with this 2018 remaster, spread out across two beefy 12-inch slabs of vinyl.
