While a more goth-coded aesthetic cloaks the U.K. outfit’s later releases, Lost Paradise plunges listeners into a bilious abyss of death-metal growls, doom-swung crushes, requiem bell-clanging metal lurches and gravestone-somber lead work from guitarist Gregor Mackintosh. Oppressively inky, the album set the bar for U.K. doom in the Nineties. Remastered by Jaime Gomez for this fittingly all-black vinyl pressing.
