Released just barely a year after solo debut Blizzard of Ozz, Diary of a Madman found Ozzy Osbourne once again at the height of his powers. The Ozzman’s second turn-of-the-Eighties outing has him further escaping the shadow of Black Sabbath, the metal frontman fully reborn while howling above the neo-classical hard-rock whimsy of “Flying High Again” and “Over the Mountain.” Sadly, it’s the last album to showcase the wildly energetic leadwork of Randy Rhoads, who’d pass away just five months after Madman’s release. One of Ozzy’s strongest solo albums, restored and remastered from the original tapes and preserved on classic black wax.
