Released in 1983, the Misfits’ Earth A.D. is a teeth-gnashing, jugular-tearing album that found the Lodi, New Jersey horror-punks intensifying their sound with a faster hardcore pace. Though the hooks to “Bloodfeast” and “Devilock” were still super singable — credit that to macabre crooner Glenn Danzig —a dissonant, demonomanical edginess possesses the bulk of Earth A.D. Its songs were later covered by Metallica, Cradle of Filth and more. Though it’s a ghoulish and violent farewell to their first era — it remains Misfits’ last album to feature Danzig on lead vocals — Earth A.D.’s appeal will never die.
