Coming off the breakthrough success of 2004’s Leviathan, Mastodon signed to a major label and continued to climb great heights with another conceptually-feverish and staggeringly massive-sounding prog-metal attack. 2006’s Blood Mountain rages like a beast and levels forest plains through waves of bluegrass mysticism, swirling Southern jam band-isms and death-metal severity.
