Kiss’ second album of 1976 — and fifth in two years — is a testament to the New York rockers’ round-the-clock work ethic. It may not be as grandly symphonic as Destroyer, but stripped-to-the-bone follow-up Rock & Roll Over still blisters with swagger and charisma. Guitarist-vocalist Paul Stanely contorts himself through songs both starry-eyed and salacious (“I Want You”), while bassist Gene Simmons cruises around as a low-riding lothario on “Calling Dr. Love”. Then there’s “Hard Luck Woman,” a song they’d considered sending to Rod Stewart before letting drummer and “Beth” vocalist Peter Criss take a crack at it. Let Kiss’ good times roll with this classic black wax pressing.
