Arguably Maiden’s most underrated and contentious album of their Eighties era, Somewhere in Time has only gotten better with age. Though the synthesized Midi guitars and slickened production values caught fans by surprise in 1986, the metal icons still galloped like pros on classically pulse-quickening cuts like “Caught Somewhere in Time” and “The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner.” Contemplative, Carpe Diem-themed rock anthem “Wasted Years” became a timeless concert staple. The elaborate, sci-fi-themed artwork presenting band mascot Eddie as an intergalactic bounty hunter is a frame-worthy work of art unto itself.
