2010’s Safe Is Just a Shadow was an impressively heavy early moment for Ice Nine Kills, but as the years went on, bandleader Spencer Charnas wondered if their sophomore album could stand a facelift. This 2017 re-recording builds upon the excellently chunky bone structure of the metalcore original, though the riffs sound even more razor-edged than before, Charnas’ screams sound stronger, and the mix sounds absolutely massive. Unlike Gus Van Sant’s late-Ninties Psycho remake, the horror auteurs in INK managed to improve on the original. Available now on transparent blue vinyl, for the first time ever.
