Described by glass-chewing riff-lord Matt Pike at the time as the “best album we’ve ever done, by far,” it finds the Oakland trio leaning into the d-beats extras hard (“Spewn from the Earth”), the doom-sludging decimates anything in a 10,000-mile-wide radius, and Pike’s solos are apocalyptically ripping, across the board. Its title track is a Grammy-winning salute to late Motörhead member Lemmy Kilmister, though it’s but one of many aces on the awesome Electric Messiah.
