1991’s Clandestine is the moment where Entombed truly walked the left-hand path, standing as the iconic Swedish death-metal force’s only full-length to not feature L.G. Petrov on the mic. Instead, drummer Nicke Andersson gets his growl on across heat-seeking melodeath rippers like “Living Dead” and grotesquely swung pieces like “Crawl.” The band nevertheless deliver their signature HM-2-diming riffs and punishing rhythms, further cementing Entombed’s rep as one of the genre’s eternal greats. Petrov would return for third album Wolverine Blues, yet Clandestine remains a piercing and essential part of the band’s catalogue.
