Deftones were already off to the races with that first pair of murkily metal-gazing full-lengths, but White Pony was a different beast altogether.
Following an intense, four month recording period, the band emerged with a most hypnotizing mix of savagely turntable-spinning nu-metal (“Elite”), codeine-bleary anthems for the hopelessly romantic (“Rx Queen”), and all-time alt-metal anthems. We watched Deftones change into a juggernaut; nothing would be the same once the Pony shot out of the stable.
