Like debut album Roads to Judah, Sunbather bristles with black-metal brutality and the kind of post-rocking shoegaze you’d expect from a band that covered Mogwai between releases. But the production is profoundly more dynamic. The sonic upgrade means the guitars, even when trilling hellfire riffage, sound prettier. The blast beats get punchier. The shrieks are incensed and heartbreaking. Over 10 years on, Sunbather is still an impeccably Vitamin D-dosing bit of experimental extremity.
