Cypress Hill’s 1991 debut is a historic piece of the West Coast rap lexicon. Pre-dating the influx of weed rappers who’d flood the markets in the wake of Dr. Dre’s The Chronic, Sen Dog and B-Real’s fluid rhymes were rolled as a potent cross-joint of stone-cold gangsta rap and goofy stonerisms. Cypress Hill is invigorating from front to back, but the standout toke is the funky, chunky, “How I Could Just Kill a Man,” which Rage Against the Machine would later cover.
