A few months after Tom Warrior and Martin Ain’s previous band, Hellhammer, called it quits, they regrouped as Celtic Frost and cranked out their debut EP, Morbid Tales. Little did these Swiss youngsters know, their 1984 opus would become a crucial influence on the burgeoning death and black-metal genres, as bands worldwide were transfixed by their dark and nasty take on thrash. It’s so much heavier and colder than what was coming out of America then, and still sends shivers down the spine today.
