2021’s Torn Arteries was a fully ripping and more-than-welcome return from the mighty Carcass. Released eight years on from their mega-impressive comeback LP, Surgical Steel, the UK death-metal faction’s seventh full-length was just as sharp and steely, unfolding as a series of aggressively blasted but melodically informed pieces involving operating table disasters (“Under the Scalpel Blade”), self-referential myth-making (“Wake Up and Smell the Carcass”) and one particularly disgusting Beatles pun (“Eleanor Rigor Mortis”). Yet another must-have from these vegan death-metal trailblazers, fittingly now pressed on transparent lime vinyl.
