With one of the most heinous album covers in metal history and song titles so perverted that this newsletter would be flagged as spam if they were spelled out in full, Tomb of the Mutilated played an instrumental role in giving death metal its lovably vile sheen. Musically, it’s also a loaded bin of bangers, with an overcrowded cemetery’s worth of haggard grooves, dismembering riffage and zombie-like gurgles from vocalist Chris Barnes that put the “ew” in brewtal.
