Black Sabbath’s sophomore album and second full-length of 1970 was originally titled War Pigs, after it’s epically stony opening protest song of the same name. That kinda explains why there’s a crazed, sabre-swinging warrior on its psychedelically blurry album cover. Their label bosses balked and renamed it after the group’s then charting, moto-fueled “Paranoid” single, which honestly works just as well with the artwork. One of Sabbath’s earliest triumphs, Paranoid is jammed to the gills with righteous Ozzy wailing, God-tier gloom riffs from Tony Iommi and other eternally iconic jams including “Iron Man” and “Electric Funeral.”
